The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre
Creative Interventions was a project inviting artists to re imagine the museum and heritage collection at The Spring, formally Havant Museum, and to respond and re-interpret the museum collection and archives. Stuff! was a project devised to explore collections, their meanings, how they are made, and to make a new experimental collection. Collections can be seen as a way of creating order, to ease insecurity, a quest, a way of presenting ourselves to the world, establishing a world view. We often curate these collections, displaying objects around our homes, on our bodies and increasingly online. Stuff! was a series of proposed participatory events which explored these ideas and formed a new experimental collection which could be endlessly reconfigured, and which would reflect the local residents today. A final installation of the collection was proposed which allowed visitors to create their own curated collection. They could choose objects from the shelves or search through a series of suitcases along the floor. They could arrange their chosen objects on a series of empty shelves or drawers on tables on the other side of the room. They could even empty their pockets and record the contents as a collection or bring things in. Instagram would be used to record stories and responses to objects which could be accessed and added to as an ongoing online collection.
