Gayhurst Primary School; Grip project: 2008.

Emily Tracy worked with children across years 3, 4 and 5 to develop a visual art project which explored immigration. The result of the project was to produce 4 permanent artworks for the school. A ‘grip’ or suitcase with artefacts and clothing was brought together by a member of staff. These artefacts all belonged to her father who arrived in London from Jamaica in the 1950’s. The children discussed and examined these objects and created prints of objects, portraits and images of The Caribbean. These were collaged together and grouped as ‘grips’ or suitcases.
