The Bird-cage

Designed and Constructed: Emily Tracy & Maximilian Marshall as "Lumina"

The Birdcage, was a 5 meter high spinning, lit sculpture which was both a static and processional spectacle. It used a Victorian theme and all of the details such as shadow puppets and decorative jewels, were made by community participants. 540 participants including schools and play-schemes, older people and families took part in collaborative workshops. The Birdcage was accompanied by a soundtrack and by two lady Ornithologists, created by Topical Broadcast, a street performance company.

These characters engaged the audience spotting new bird species with their binoculars.
In addition Emily worked with Theatre designer/artist Sophie Charalambous to run a Camden Summer school with young people 11-18yrs. The young people designed and made Victorian inspired hooped skirts which were internally lit and paraded.
